The Department of Blue Economy attended the 35th Sherpa Meeting held in Paris, France at the UNESCO Headquarters . Seychelles, a key member of the Ocean Panel, was represented by the Principal Secretary of Blue Economy, Phillianne Ernesta, and Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Gabriella Gonthier.

The event brought together global leaders and experts to discuss strategic initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth through ocean-related activities. The Department of Blue Economy actively participated in various sessions, sharing insights and experiences on leveraging marine resources for economic development while ensuring environmental conservation. Key topics included marine biotechnology, circular economy, and coastal tourism.

The department’s delegation highlighted successful case studies and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in addressing challenges such as marine pollution and climate change. Their contributions were well-received, reinforcing the department’s commitment to advancing the blue economy on a global scale.

Through active engagement in various panels and workshops, the Department of Blue Economy contributed to shaping policies that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 14, which focuses on life below water.
