FiTI NMSG Conducts Fisheries Transparency Awareness Session on Praslin

The Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI) National Multi-Stakeholder Group (NMSG) conducted a public awareness session at the Baie Ste Anne Community Centre on Praslin Island on 3 October 2026, with a total of 12 fishers in attendance.

The session aimed to raise awareness of FiTI’s role in promoting transparency and public access to information in Seychelles’ fisheries sector. Participants were introduced to the work of the FiTI NMSG and the importance of making fisheries-related information accessible to the public to support informed participation and sustainable fisheries management.

The session also provided an opportunity for fishers to engage with the FiTI NMSG, share their perspectives and discuss issues affecting the fisheries sector on Praslin.

The visit marked the first activity under the FiTI NMSG’s ongoing fisheries transparency awareness campaign for 2026. The campaign aims to strengthen public understanding of fisheries transparency, encourage stakeholder participation and promote dialogue between fishing communities and relevant stakeholders across Seychelles.

Following the successful session on Praslin, the awareness campaign will continue on La Digue and Mahé, extending outreach efforts to more communities and providing further opportunities for the public to learn about FiTI and its role in promoting transparency in fisheries governance.
