The mandate of the Department of Fisheries is to provide a conducive policy and legal environment to ensure sustainable fisheries based on the eco-system approach, facilitate appropriate physical infrastructure and institutional framework to allow private investment with the increase of Seychellois participation in the sector, and facilitate operations towards increasing value-addition aimed for export and as means of national food and nutrition security and gains along the value chain, whilst achieving sustain transformation and diversification of the sector to increase fisheries contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
