FiTI NMSG Showcases Seychelles’ Leadership in Fisheries Transparency During Côte d’Ivoire Ministerial Visit

The National Multi-Stakeholder Group (NMSG) of Seychelles welcomed a high-level delegation led by H.E. Mr. Sidi Tiémoko Touré, Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and delegation, for an exchange on fisheries transparency, good governance and international cooperation.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase Seychelles’ implementation of the FiTI Standard and highlight the collaborative role of the National Multi-Stakeholder Group in bringing together government, the private sector and civil society to strengthen transparency, accountability and sustainable fisheries governance.

During the discussions, the delegation was introduced to the Seychelles Fisheries Information Management System (FIMS), which provides public access to key fisheries information, including fisheries statistics, licensing and export data. The delegation was particularly keen on the accessibility of this information which generated considerable interest, demonstrating how open data can support informed decision-making, enhance public accountability and build stakeholder confidence.

The programme also featured an exchange of commemorative gifts between the FiTI NMSG and the visiting delegation, symbolizing the strong partnership and shared commitment of Seychelles and Côte d’Ivoire to advancing transparent and sustainable fisheries management. The visit concluded with a farewell dinner co-hosted by the FiTI NMSG and FiTI International, providing an opportunity to strengthen professional ties and continue discussions on regional cooperation.

The Côte d’Ivoire delegation commended Seychelles for its continued commitment to fisheries transparency and its inclusive, multi-stakeholder governance model. The delegation acknowledged the country’s achievements in promoting open access to fisheries information and recognized the important role of transparency in supporting evidence-based policy making, sustainable resource management and stronger international collaboration.
