The Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI) National Multi-Stakeholder Group (NMSG) members, completed a two-day in-person workshop from the 26th to 27th of June 2024 at CEPS conference room. The workshop follows in-person interviews, a validation survey, and an online workshop conducted with the NMSG FiTI members as a part of a pilot project on Participation in Fisheries Transparency.
This workshop was conceptualized by two senior experts from the Participation Factory, Ms. Anna Wien and Ms. Katya Petrikevich. The goal of the workshop was to create a shared vision regarding participation in fisheries transparency and a specific idea regarding the MSG’s role in supporting achieving this vision, as well as to create detailed recommendations to the national government regarding increasing and improving participation in fisheries transparency, and finally, to create a general recommendation to the FiTI MSG on how to increase internal and/or external participation.
The participation of the National Multi-Stakeholder Group (NMSG) which consisted of government officials, heads of NGOs, FiTI National Secretariat, and SFA, was essential in developing a strong recommendation for future participation. The general consensus of the workshop was to change the concept of the Fisheries Industry from what it is. ‘Fisheries should be on par with the Tourism industry’ one of the NMSG members said.
On his part, the chair of Seychelles’ FiTI, Mr. Philippe Michaud was pleased to have the support of the FiTI NMSG members and concluded the workshop as a success for Seychelles. The next step is to work towards making use of the data and ensuring that published information feeds into public debates and policy development.
