Agriculture Department Hosts Courtesy Visit from Algerian Ambassador

On Wednesday, 22nd July 2026, the Agriculture Department welcomed His Excellency Mr. Miloud Benmakhlouf, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Seychelles, who paid a courtesy visit to the Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Mr. Keven Nancy. The Ambassador was accompanied by his Attaché de Chancellerie, Mr. Nadji Kechid.

The meeting focused on strengthening agricultural cooperation between Seychelles and Algeria through knowledge exchange, technical collaboration, and capacity building. Ambassador Benmakhlouf shared Algeria’s success in achieving self-sufficiency in several agricultural products through modernization, innovation, and strategic investment, while expressing his country’s interest in closer collaboration with Seychelles.

Principal Secretary Nancy highlighted the unique challenges faced by Seychelles as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), including climate change, limited agricultural land, and reliance on food imports. He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and sharing expertise to enhance food security and build resilient agricultural systems.

Both parties agreed that the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) would provide a strong framework for future collaboration and pave the way for practical initiatives that will benefit the agricultural sectors of both countries.
