The Department of Blue Economy successfully hosted a workshop on the Seychelles Micro-Continent at the University of Seychelles (UniSey) on Friday, 7th February 2025. The event brought together 40 participants, including students, representatives from government entities, and civil society stakeholders, fostering discussions on the significance and potential of Seychelles’ unique maritime geological feature in influencing the development of the Blue Economy.
A key highlight of the workshop was the strong representation of women in ocean-related discussions, with 29 of the participants being women—accounting for an impressive 72.5% of the attendees. This underscores the growing involvement of women in the Blue Economy sector and their crucial role in shaping sustainable ocean governance.
The workshop aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of the Seychelles Micro-Continent and its importance to national ocean governance, economic opportunities, and conservation efforts. Participants engaged in expert-led discussions, knowledge-sharing sessions, and interactive presentations that emphasized the geological, environmental, and economic dimensions of the Seychelles Micro-Continent.
The Department of Blue Economy remains committed to fostering knowledge exchange and inclusive participation in marine-related matters as Seychelles continues to champion the Blue Economy at both national and international levels.
