Courtesy call Chinese Ambassador to the Designated Minister

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Seychelles H.E Mrs. GUO Wei conducted a courtesy call on the Designated Minister and the Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy Mr. Jean-Francois Ferarri, this morning (Thursday 25th March, 2021) at the Ministry.

Ambassador GUO Wei reiterated the excellent cooperation that exists between Seychelles and China for the past 45 years, which she says, is based on a principle of mutual interest. The Ambassador renewed the friendship and support of the Chinese government for the development of the Seychelles especially during this global economic crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the subject of fisheries, Ambassador GUO Wei asserted that in the past there were efforts between Seychelles and China to establish fisheries cooperation and this is a subject that is being strongly considered by both parties.

On his part, Minister Ferrari welcomed the proposals made by Ambassador GUO Wei and expressed his eagerness to start discussions for cooperation in fisheries as well as in the blue economy sector.

Minister Ferrari reiterated that the fisheries resources namely the yellow fin tuna is under pressure and that under the new government a part of the industrial fishing will be prioritized for Seychellois investment, including value added business opportunities.
