The Department of Blue Economy, in collaboration with the International Platform for Ocean Sustainability (IPOS), recently convened a high-level international webinar aimed at strengthening science-based policymaking and advancing sustainable ocean governance.
The webinar brought together representatives from government institutions, regional organizations, academia, civil society, and international partners to examine how strengthened science–policy collaboration can support informed decision-making and deliver practical solutions for ocean sustainability.
This initiative reflects Seychelles’ continued leadership as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) committed to sustainable ocean management, climate resilience, and the advancement of the blue economy agenda. Through its engagement with IPOS, Seychelles has actively promoted knowledge-sharing, evidence-based planning, and innovative approaches to addressing marine pollution, circular economy opportunities, and the sustainable management of marine resources.

Participants were also presented with a demonstration of IPOS’ Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform through its Rapid Response Service, which leverages advanced data analytics and evidence synthesis to deliver timely policy insights. This initiative aligns with the Government’s strategic commitment to digital transformation and the responsible use of artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency, innovation, and evidence-based decision-making across sectors.
Speaking following the event, Terrence Crea, Director at the Department of Blue Economy, emphasized that the collaboration underscores Seychelles’ strong commitment to fostering partnerships that bridge science and policy in support of national and regional development priorities.
“This engagement reflects our determination to harness knowledge, innovation, and collaboration to ensure that ocean governance remains inclusive, forward-looking, and grounded in sound scientific evidence,” he stated.
