Department of Blue Economy and Seychelles Ports Authority Strengthen Collaboration

The Department of Blue Economy met with the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) on Friday 13th February 2025 as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce institutional collaboration in advancing Seychelles’ Blue Economy agenda.

The Department’s delegation engaged in constructive discussions with Mr Lynze Marimba, Director of Strategic Business Development, and Ms Maureen (Leon) Pierre-Louis, Business Development Manager, focusing on areas of mutual interest particularly the sustainable use of ocean resources and the role of maritime services in contributing to national socio-economic development.

Central to the meeting was the potential formalisation of cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The proposed framework would establish structured collaboration across several key strategic areas, including:

  • Training and capacity building in ocean governance and marine environmental sustainability;
  • Technical and financial assistance, where appropriate;
  • Data and knowledge sharing;
  • Enhanced visibility and joint representation in international forums;
  • Development and promotion of green port initiatives;
  • Provision of legal capacity, strategic guidance, and advisory support.

The dialogue underscored the strong synergies between the Department of Blue Economy and the Seychelles Ports Authority, particularly in promoting sustainable maritime operations, environmental stewardship, and innovation within the port sector.

This meeting marks an important step toward strengthening coordinated action in support of Seychelles’ Blue Economy vision. Both entities expressed their commitment to further discussions aimed at formalising and operationalising this partnership for the long-term benefit of the country.
