An Indian Ocean Fisheries Ministerial Meeting took place at the Eden Bleu Hotel on Thursday the 05th of May 2022 at the initiative of the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Mr. Jean-Francois Ferrari.
This meeting comprised of Ministers from Comoros, Mauritius, Madagascar as well as Seychelles.
The PS for Fisheries, Mr. Roy Clarisse, the CEO of SFA, Mr. Nichol Elizabeth and the Consultant of the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Mr. Philippe Michaud were part of the Seychelles delegation for the meeting.
The main aim of this meeting was to have an exchange ideas for the upcoming and much awaited Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) meeting. The 26th session of IOTC will be held in Seychelles, starting from May 16 – 20, 2022.
The 4 Indian Ocean countries have much in common, especially when it comes to the fishing methods used in their respective tuna fishing industries. Therefore, having such a meeting would prove to be beneficial for strengthening their existing diplomatic relationship and also agreeing on key measures that will ensure that each country benefits from a sustainable and healthy fish stock over the coming years.
