The co-founder and the managing director of the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI), Sven Biermann, gave an informative presentation based on the FiTI at the department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday last week.
The FiTI, as presented by Mr Biermann, is a global multi-stakeholder initiative with the purpose of increasing transparency and participation in fisheries governance, so as to promote a more sustainable management of marine fisheries.

The initiative was launched in April 2017 in Bali, Indonesia and is governed by an international stakeholder board to which Seychelles is represented by the special advisor to the Blue Economy, Philippe Michaud.
Seychelles being an international leader in regards to the Blue Economy, is among the seven counties currently engaged in the FiTI. Soon the FiTI secretariat will be transferred to Seychelles from Germany.
The presentation was well-received and sensitised the department’s senior officers on the importance of promoting this initiative.
